Who has a great anecdote about a time when they met or had contact with Al Gore?
I kind of did back in 1986. I was going to college at the University of Memphis and the MId-South Peace and Justice center were sponsoring a trip to Washington DC to attend the April Actions for Peace, Jobs, and Justice. A friend and I signed up but the friend backed out at the last moment. I went anyway along with an eclectic group of peace activists, radical nuns, tax protesters and the like. They really didn't like Gore because they thought he was too pro-military. I really liked his environmental stance but was cautiously quiet around the radical nuns.
The march was great...thousands of people. We chanted things like "Give Peace a chance give Reagan the ranch." Afterward, the group I was with went to Senator Al Gore's office. I guess they made an appointment..I don't know. The guy at the front office seemed really nervous when our ragtag group came marching in. We got right in to see him. I don't really remember anything he said specifically. I do remember that he was very polite and professional as the nuns reamed him out about the war in El Salvador and Nicaragua. He looked very nice of course in contrast to the way we must of looked having slept on a gym floor the night before. He shook everyone's hand as they left. Very kind..I think he said" thanks for coming." .I wish I could go back there and warn him about the year 2000.."Beware of Florida chads!!" (He probably would have thought I was a radical nun!)
