Dear Fellow Gore Supporters;
The day after Al Gore endorsed Howard Dean, I saw the Draft Gore movement and other sites dedicated to an Al Gore 2004 candidacy dissolved. It disheartened me because I have never been one to simply just give up until all options are exhausted. Especially for a cause as noble and worthy as this one, for it encompasses the very future of this nation. And I'm not the only American who believes this. Along with a dedicated group of Gore supporters, we then decided that Al Gore is still a leader worth fighting for, and so is this country. Patriots For Gore is a new PAC started by those of us who see the future we now face at the hands of those on both sides who exploit our dreams and those of our children, and are willing to stand up against the odds to see a new day for America. To see the Bush regime and the power structure that put him there relegated to the dustbin of history where they belong, and to restore what was taken from all of us: Our dignity, our unity, our Democracy, and our President! I therefore, want you to ask yourselves these questions and answer them honestly. Do you love this country? Do you believe we should stand up for what is best for this country? Are you of the opinion that removing George W. Bush from office is only the first step to truly making powerful change that will last through our children's generation and beyond? Do you believe our own party leadership has been remiss in their responsibility for what has taken place over the last four years? Are you angry that our leadership did not stand up for our people in 2000 to fight the judicial coup that took place? Are you still angry about Al Gore being shut out of this process? Are you angry that he has had to speak in exile these past four years? Are you still angry about the voice of the people being silenced? Are you angry at a party that discounts your vote and your opinion in lieu of their own political desires? Are you tired of not being a part of this process and feeling helpless to do anything about it? Well, you can do something about it.
We at PFG feel that anger and urgency in our very souls regarding where this country is being taken by the current regime, along with the blatant enabling of it by the Democratic leadership over these past four years and we will not keep silent any longer. We will stand firm as Americans who believe in the power of the Democratic process, and who believe that the dreams of the American people can take hold if they work together to achieve them. That also includes fighting for the leadership we deserve and voted for! That leadership is Al Gore. You knew it in your hearts then, and you know it now. Al Gore has spoken out for the people of America throughout his 25 plus years of public service, and even though he has said he is not running, he continues to deliver the strongest policy speeches of anyone in the Democratic Party from civil liberties, the economy, and the environment, to peace and security. Now, we must speak out for him and the issues he has addressed to effect positive change. We must speak out against the outrageous dismissal by both parties of the treachery that robbed us of our President and our Democratic process. We cannot go into future until we rectify the past. We cannot leave this to our children. What we do today and how it is accomplished will not only determine the legacy we leave them, but their children as well. In the last four years, America has been assaulted by terrorists, has launched a preemptive and immoral war, has gone from economic prosperity to economic instability, has had the civil liberties of its citizens threatened by the Patriot Act, and has had its reputation as a respected world leader ruined by an administration that doesn’t believe in diplomacy, or our constitution. This situation will not improve with our silence. The time to act is now to work for effective leadership.
That is why I am urging all of you to help us in this endeavor to restore the rightful President, and to work for positive change in our country. We have been working in write -in states to inform voters of their option to write in Al Gore's name on their primary ballot. However, current events dictate that we now focus on the delegate votes that truly can determine the outcome of this convention. We therefore, just mailed out letters to all Democratic superdelegates in Congress, and every Democratic Governor in this country. We will now focus on Party Chairs, and other officials to inform them of our presence. Superdelegate votes comprise about 40% of the delegate vote and can make or break a nomination. Many of these delegates are currently not committed to any one candidate (nor do they have to be,) and as an article in CNN this past week illustrated, they are not truly excited by any of them either. www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/02/25/mgrind.day.wed/index.html
We at PFG believe this is our chance to remind them of the tremendous accomplishments of Al Gore, and also to remind them of what was stolen from us which they have the power to restore with their delegate vote on the floor of the Convention Hall in Boston this July. Our plan of action from now up to the convention consists of an unrelenting effort revolving around letters, e-mails, phone calls, meetings, and media contact. We will alert all representatives in this country and the media to the fact that we the people are not satisfied with the media hype that sabotages our primary season and skews the results in favor of a pre-determined party pick. We want our President restored, and we want our leadership to begin to truly listen to our people, restore our faith in this process, and work for change that provides longterm sustainable benefits for all of our people. With all of our voices and hearts joined together in this effort, there is no doubt that we can make history. The days of compromising are over. The days of settling are over. This is a new day, a new time, and the people must and will be heard. If you are an American who believes in miracles, and an American who deep down in your heart still has not given up hope for a brighter tomorrow in the spirit of those first Patriots who fought to birth this nation, nor in an Al Gore presidency and the great strides his leadership could bring for all Americans and our world, then please join us.
Thank you,
Jan Moore
