Don't worry, I'm addicted! It was a figure of speech. Anyway, what was this thread about originally, I've forgotten!

Erin's not going anywhere, Chris. I don't agree with the posts she deleted, but she exercised her rights as moderator, and so be it. There are some tensions among some of us here, and I agree that they shouldn't be aired in public.

I wonder if one of us moderators should use our powers and lock up this thread for good. There's been a lot of arguing (nonproductive) in this thread, and we're not even on-topic anymore, so maybe we should just lock it up, throw away the key, and start over again with another topic. I won't lock the thread because I'd rather have a consensus on this one, but if anyone else feels we should, please go ahead.

James, please post the formal speech of " endorsement" of Kerry by Mr. Gore. Gore endorsed DEAN, he never came out and publicly ENDORSED John Kerry. The DNC "unity" dinner was not an ENDORSEMENT of John Kerry. He has only said he would support the nominee. He has at the very least challenged John Kerry with his brilliant speech last Wednesday. Again, get over your childish personal grudge and try to answer like an adult. I honestly don't understand how you are allowed to be so downright nasty to people here. You say I trash others? What else DO YOU DO HERE? Now, can you back up YOUR statements, or what?

Does this sound like an "endorsement" to you?
Some interesting lines from Sunday's "Meet the Press":
MR. RUSSERT: Do you think the president has bet his presidency on Iraq?
MR. HAYES: I think he has.
MS. MITCHELL: I think it's a referendum on Iraq. And in fact, as the economy picks up, assuming that it continues and doesn't get set back or detoured by another terror incident or by what's happening now in Saudi Arabia, it will be a referendum on Iraq. And what's interesting is that John Kerry is taking his time, as Joe says, to get his voice. He has a few interviews today. But I think what's most unhelpful to John Kerry in this regard is Al Gore. The Al Gore speech sets out what is a growing feeling in the Democratic base. We want out. We want quick withdrawal. And John Kerry has not signed on to that. And the more Al Gore speaks out in this fashion, emotionally pulling at the heartstrings of the Democratic liberal base, the more it sets Kerry apart from his own party.
MR. RUSSERT: And allows Ralph Nader to emerge as the peace candidate?
MS. MITCHELL: Exactly.
MR. RUSSERT: Roger?
MR. SIMON: Well, I agree about Al Gore. I don't agree that there is a growing feeling in the Democratic base to push John Kerry farther to the left. The Democratic left is doing exactly what the Republican right did in 2000, which is cutting the nominee some slack so he can get elected president. So I have to say it's always fraught with peril to disagree with Ron Brownstein, but I really disagree with the premise of his story. When John Kerry came out recently and said he might appoint judges who weren't for Roe v. Wade, you would have expected a huge eruption from the Democratic left. Instead he got slack absolutely cut for him. This is a party passionate about defeating George Bush. They are not yet passionate about electing John Kerry, but they are trying to get themselves there.
MS. MITCHELL: I think the distinction is that the leaders of the left are going along with this program. But the difference is that the rank-and-file Democrats out there who are increasingly frustrated don't feel passionate about John Kerry. And they don't feel passion increasingly when they hear people like Al Gore reaching to where their real core is. So I think it's whether or not John Kerry can really mobilize people to come out and vote. You're right, the leadership is not going to put him on the spot other than, of course, Al Gore.
MR. KLEIN: Well, I think--I agree with Roger about this. I think that the rank and file is on the same page as the leadership in this case. But there is a problem that Al Gore, you know, highlights for Kerry, and that is that Kerry hasn't--people say he has to have an alternative plan to the president's. He doesn't have to have an alternative plan. But what he has to do is make some sort of an emotional connection with the American people on this issue, to show them that he understands how upset they are. I mean, the most interesting statistic that came out this week was in an ABC-Washington Post poll that showed that the level of anger among Americans has increased from 30 percent to 57 percent about Iraq in the last two months. Now, that's a fairly abstract--anger over what? But I think it's--the frustration is really very, very high, and Kerry has to acknowledge that.

What else DO YOU DO HERE? Now, can you back up YOUR statements, or what? Jan, As usual you deny reality. The Unity dinner was an endorsement of Kerry. Gore wasn't even scheduled to be there but changed his plans at the last moment so he could be. You're the one with the childish grudges against anyone that disagrees with you whether it be me or Bill C. or Earthmother or Chris. And if you want some back-up rather than quote pundits let's quote Gore himself. First from the Unity dinner: And I speak for all of his classmates in the Senate and all of the men and women who have served in the United States Senate with John Kerry over the years. He has become known to one and all as a man of experience and integrity and enormous ability. And every time there was a fight that needed to be waged on behalf of the people of this country, John Kerry was helping to lead that fight. He helped to lead the fight to help President Clinton and the Clinton/Gore Administration bring about the new economics that we enjoyed in the 1990s. He helped to lead the fight for a clean environment. And I can tell you as somebody who's fought for the environment all my life, there is nobody that I have ever served with who has a better record on the environment - - environment and the economy together - - than John Kerry. You can count on him. His values are just in the right place. And you can trust him.
[/i] And from last week's speech: In my opinion, John Kerry is dealing with this unfolding tragedy in an impressive and extremely responsible way. Our nation's best interest lies in having a new president who can turn a new page, sweep clean with a new broom, and take office on January 20th of next year with the ability to make a fresh assessment of exactly what our nation's strategic position is as of the time the reigns of power are finally wrested from the group of incompetents that created this catastrophe. Jan why do you continually come over here? You keep saying we are being childish, when in fact it was you who left and said you would never come back. It was you who acted childish when we got behind John Kerry as Al did. It was you who has came back under false aliases to post here and cause trouble.
You don't seem to be able to face reality. Gore is not running this time, that is a fact. The fact is, most of us realized that about 6-8 months ago when he endorsed Dean. Yet you keep beating a dead horse. I see on your board where you bash Kerry to no end, which is pretty inmature. Did you not hear where Al said Democrats should adopt a 11th commandment in not saying any ill of another Democrat? But I guess you will twist his words on that to say he didn't say it. You keep saying that the primaries are not over, so why quit. That is so ludacris. If you knew anything about politics, you would know that the earlier a party unites behind one candidate, the better. Can you at least not give John Kerry the respect that the party gave Al when he beat Bradley early in 2000?
Your actions have been nothing short of incompetent and childish. Al Gore would not think highly of the way you act and criticize other supporters of his that simply are expressing their beliefs, which happen to be his.
Face the reality!

Jan get over it. Gore endorsed Kerry as did Clinton and Carter. Why can you not see that? Kerry is the nominee, whether you like it or not. He didn't have to hold a press conference to endorse him. Why are you so blind to see that HE HAS ENDORSED AND SUPPORTS KERRY?

We will all go on in our own time and in our own ways.. Speaking for myself, I don't think I will ever "get over" Gore not running and all the heartache caused by the horror of the Bush years. Its not really getting over Gore backing Kerry, its about not getting over being denied the President we should have had. But we go on, and Gore has done the right thing at this point to get behind the nominee. .. which he said he would do. We all know though that Kerry was not Gore's first choice and I have grave reservations about Kerry and the War in Iraq though of course he is better than what we have now. We all agree who should be in the White House right now...everyone of us who had spent many hours on this board looking for some hope...and we will go on in different ways and fight different fights. In the end, On Nov. 2nd we will all go to the polls and vote for the nominee. (Even if it is for that Crypt Keeper, Kerry...just kidding..ok?? )
