Just thought I would start a topic that was a bit off the mainstream. I don't know how many Lord Of The Rings fans are posting here, but I am a BIG ONE. I recently watched Two Towers on DVD, I have the first one as well, and cannot WAIT to go see the third installment, "Return Of The King" which opens up in theatres on Dec.17th! Any other fans of this trilogy here, and if so, are you as excited as I am? From all the talk going around, it is said that this will be the best one yet, and certainly an Oscar contender (although I don't really care about the Oscars.) The Two Towers blew me away, so I can just imagine what this one will do. My favorite character is Aragorn. He is brave, trustworthy, and has the heart of a King who truly cares for the people. ( And yes, HE IS HANDSOME. I like Sam too, because of his loyalty to his friend Frodo the ringbearer and his willingness to weather anything to see their journey completed. These movies are analogous to life also, in that we all have journeys and quests in our own lives that meet up with resisitance, danger at times, and difficult choices we must make. Sticking to our convictions and seeing them through whatever obstacles we face is imo the true measure of a human being. Oh well, suffice it to say that I am waiting very patiently to see Aragorn crowned King. Sort of like waiting to see our President "return." Jan

Yes Jan, I too love these movies. (Did you ever read the books?) I don't think I'm going to see it in the theater because we probably won't be able to afford it. But DVD will be just fine. (If not better due to the extra scenes My favorite character is Gandolf because of his spiritual wisdom and fatherly comfort. My wife's favorite is Legolas. Dennis

Dennis Dennis, Yes, going to the movies is expensive. That's why I've been trying to save up. I simply have to see it on the "Big screen." It will be my Christmas present to myself. Gandolf is a wonderful character, and I actually cried watching Fellowship for the first time when he plunged off the bridge at Kazadoom... Sir Ian McKellen is superb in that role. I was so happy to see him return in Two Towers as Gandolf The White. My son is awed by Legolas. He can't believe how fast the character can shoot arrows. As far as the books, I have read the first installment. I have Return Of The King which I just purchased. I will probably read some of it before I see the movie, but won't read the ending. I want to see it first. Oh, and I was blown away by the trees in Two Towers who took revenge on their destroyers. How else would a "tree hugger" feel? Jan

www.lordoftherings.net/ Despite all that is going on in the political world, I am still counting the days until the release of "The Return Of The King." One week left. The above link is the main website. I thought I would post it for a little diversion. Enjoy. From the Two Towers: Sam: "It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened. But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something. Frodo: "What are we holding on to, Sam?" Sam: "That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for." Amen. Jan

Well, I saw Return Of The King today, and I am at a loss for words. SPECTACULAR is all I can say. If you can sit through the three and a half hours, do it. It is well worth it to me. I won't divulge any of it, but suffice it to say that I was very happy with the ending. It was so good, that at the ending, my husband, my son, and I had tears in our eyes, and my husband who was really not into the first or second one said it was fantastic. It is also very hard to watch this and not see paralells to today's society. I believe JRR Tolkien wrote this as a metaphor about industrialization in England as it forst strated there, and that thread does run through it. The fight betrween good and evil, between greed and the loving heart also are threads that run through it, and are struggles we all live with daily. The parallells to the Bush administration and others in this world like it are also undeniable. Environemtnal devastation and killing all in their path to achieve their goals. However, through perseverence, faith, friendship, fellowship, hope, and love, the journey was not in vain. That is why I totally believe that anything worth having is worth fighting for. That's why we're still here! Again, thumbs up on this movie! Jan

Jan I just recently saw this movie and it was breathtakingly awesome. I, too, am a big fan of the series and I would love to see this final installment receive the accolodates it so deserves come Oscar time. I liked the movies so much I started reading the series. Even though the books had been recommended to me a couple times through the years I just never got around to reading them. I was pleased and amazed to discover how closely the movies stuck to the nature of the books. I was literally spellbound watching Return of the King (and watching Aragorn. LOL)

In fact, the last three movies we've bothered to see at the theatre have been... LOL... the three Lord of the Rings movies. I will rent it on DVD as well, because I love all the little extras you get to see, too.

I can't wait for the DVD to come out now. I have the first two so this will complete the collection. Jan
